Northside Joinery began with a simple preference: fewer jobs, done to a standard we’d be happy to sign. That hasn’t changed.
The story
We set up in North London to make furniture the way it used to be made — chosen boards, cut and jointed by hand, finished patiently. The workshop takes on a handful of commissions at a time so nothing is rushed and nothing is outsourced.
Most of our work comes from period homes across North London, where nothing is square and everything is particular. That suits us — the awkward rooms are the interesting ones.
The maker
Every commission is designed and built by the same pair of hands from first sketch to final fit. You’ll talk to the person making your piece — not a salesperson, not a subcontractor.
Trained in traditional cabinetmaking and years deep into the trade, the approach is unfashionably slow and entirely deliberate.
Why bespoke
Off-the-shelf asks you to compromise: the wrong size, the wrong wood, a finish that tires within a year. Bespoke starts from your room and your life and works outward. It costs more up front and less over a lifetime — because it’s made once, made well, and made to be repaired rather than replaced.
